“It’s What’s Inside”
7 – 27 August 2021

“It’s What’s Inside” is the fourth in a series of exhibitions for which Gallery DODO has invited 2 or 3 artists to collaborate on a presentation of their work. The nature and extent of the collaboration in these exhibitions is determined solely by the artists themselves. They may choose to show independently alongside one another, or to produce new work together.

Each with their own established and distinct practices, Lucy Brown and Sarah Pager have hatched the collaborative identity lucybrownsarahpager especially for this exhibition; all work shown is thus credited. Initially developing work in the ad-hoc studio set-up of Phoenix’s main gallery during lockdown, the pair began to explore the idea of spaces within spaces (DODO is itself a space within Phoenix Art Space).

The central piece of the culminating exhibition consists of a large amorphously shaped plaster form, offering from the outside a number of orifices through which a seductive interior is glimpsed, but not fully apprehended. An all-encompassing interactive image of the interior, shot with a 360° camera, is made available by the artists offsite, however, on the exhibition’s Eventbrite listing and Gallery DODO’s Google Maps profile.
